My son is getting a Savage axis 308 for his birthday and is interested in learning how to shoot past the 100 yard limit that we both currently have accomplished. I know 100 yards is nothing to a seasoned shooter but we are both still learning. Does anyone have a  recommendation for a scope that is 300 or less that will allow us to shoot out to 600 yards and possibly further? I am not sure what the quality or capabilities of the Savage is, He wanted a Remington  but after just getting back to work after a lengthy unemployment I had to get something I could afford.

I know for this price point we are not going to get a great scope but I am just looking for a good starter scope to use for a year or two before upgrading.

Any input would be greatly welcomed!

SWFA SS Fixed 10X (or 6X or 12X or 16X) , for the money, it's about the only scope I can think of that I can definitively say consistently tracks correctly.

Thanks for the response, someone on another forum recommended the same scope, I will definitely look into that one!
