I started with 500.  I'm down to 445 after the first season and it's making me itchy.

Figure many matches are a max of 250 rounds.  Then there is sight in day.  That's usually at least 50.  Some matches have side matches or side games, too.  These are usually an extra cost (small, like $10 or so), and there are prizes for those, too.  Many matches offer train ups the day before as well, and those are usually 100-150 rounds.

So, to answer your question, I would consider 400 to be the bare minimum.  Since I lost 55 pieces in my first season (and about 50 of that was at GAP Grind), I'd try to get another 1-200 pieces if I were you.

For PRS matches, anyway.

For one day matches?  You've got MORE than enough.  I think the busiest one day match I shot this past season was...  MAYBE 150 rounds?  Most are in the 80ish round area.

I don't know man the battle of Breakneck was a pretty intense day. Haha. So if you lose 50pcs per match. I don't even have enough to get through my 4 matches this season.

I shot at shoot for the Green this last weekend and lost 6 pieces from about 200 rounds fired. Most matches I lose little to none, but I go into the season with at least 600, and most of it is still going strong at the end.

I shot LRSE this past weekend.  I haven't finished digging through all my bags and whatnot, but I think maybe lost 8 or 10 pieces.

The issue at the grind was there was a thief who stole all the brass on day 2.

I am still waiting on my 6.5 Creedmore to arrive. I do not reload. I would be willing to "donate" my used brass (once shot) to any takers later this year. I currently have about 400 rounds of Hornady and 200 rounds of Prime (Norma brass). I will post a thread in the for sale section as it becomes available. The brass would be free, the new owner to pay shipping only. I expect that I would have about 50 round per month available starting in June.

5-600 is a good number. Makes it possible to keep them all on the same firing and have 250-300 basically in two batches that you can work on between matches.

I wish I would have started with more.  I started with 500, and am down to fewer than 450.  I can't have two batches loaded with enough to cover matches and sight-in.

Next time around, I'm going to start with 1000.  Better too many than not enough, IMO.

It should be noted that Jeff is a bit of a compulsive buyer! Then again he does let you know when something you are looking for is in stock. If you talk sweet he even hand delivers!
