I use a 308 because I am hard headed and like to do things the hard way. I also shoot a TON and dont have an unlimited budget for barrels so I figure that into account.
Also, I'm not competing professionally or even am really good enough to finish near the top every match so I'm just having fun with it and learning at this point.

BUT

The 6.5 is ballistically superior in damn near every way other than barrel life.

I shoot both.

I like the .308 for a few reasons...it was the round that I used when I first started deer hunting and dad always used it also.  When you look up to somebody like that it tends to help you develop a bias.

The second reason is that there is a ton of information out there on the .308 Win.  There is virtually nothing undiscovered about that cartridge so it helped as a learning tool, to see how others have "done" things, how it worked out and what doesn't work.

The 6.5 is a fun cartridge that has great potential and is one of those rounds to shoot when you need a "feel good" session.  Haha, it easily makes you feel like you know what your doing.  It is a pleasure to shoot with it's mild recoil and distance ability.
