I am getting excited, the scope, mounting rings, and sling arrived today.  Rifle just shipped, so I should have it the beginning of next week.  Then, just the bipod and ammo remain, but I can get started using my bags and the ammo usually ships in just a couple of days.  Hopefully the weather will hold out for me to get it all put together.   :D

Then the newb questions will really start.....

Sending you PM

That's awesome!  Love to see new people getting into the sport.

Newb questions?  That's why we're here!  :D

New here but not new to rifles. I know OP was looking at 6.5 but there's been a lot of discussion about Rugers new RPR. I *just* received mine in .308 and had occasion to go to the range yesterday. I've seen discussion on triggers, mods, etc.

I got one of the new Gen II's and whatever issues there were are now gone. I have Giessel triggers, Jewel, Timney, etc and the trigger on this one is hands down THE BEST out of the box trigger I've ever felt in almost 40 years of shooting -- and accuracy? 2" groups at 300 yards with factory ammo seemed to be the norm. Oh, and I just dumped a spare scope I had on hand on it.....can't wait for a new Shepard/Loopy to arrive.

Ruger, you knocked it out of the park with this one.....now if we could have a LA 300 Winmag......

Doubtful.  All these "tactical-style" rifles were developed mostly with the thought of a "ready to go" PRS setup, or something great for use in production class.

Long action chamberings, ANY long action chamberings, do not fit that mold.  Ergo, no market.....

OP - what'd you end up doing?  Haven't heard from you in a while...

Hey dude,
Have shot a few times at the range, still snow and cold here. Took the Loopy off and have a new Shepherd 6-18X going in Warne rings. Still love this rifle, extremely accurate with proper handloads.

Just wish it would warm up a bit, strange winter here...

My RPR is a great starter rifle. Shoot the 243 with over 2000 rounds through it and it still shoots 2in 5 shot groups
at 600 yards. Stock rifle with good scope. Shoot only 108 grain reloads at 2850 fps.   Love RUGER

Im shopping between a Bergara and Sako myself. Certain models should be in your price range. Im coming from a custom 308 on KRG W3 and am now looking for 6.5CM and lighter rifle.
