Western Nebraska Precision Shooters will again host “The Battle of Breakneck” April 16th and 17th, 2016. The shootout will take place approximately 3 miles East of Broadwater in the rough and scenic river breaks of the North Platte river. This match will be a field style match with a good mix of prone and positional shooting from natural structures. Their will be a sprinkling of man made barricades but we intend to keep this match on a natural/ practical format.

Like in our past events, WNPS strives to host fun and challenging matches that draw from the competitors raw shooting abilities. Again this is not a “gamer” match but rather a more traditional field style competition.

Competitors take note that on the Friday prior to the competition is the fun shoot and sight in. Also Rick Reeves and John Griswold will be conducting a first class work up. The workup is $125 dollars, sign up will be available at time of match registration.

I attended a three day class hosted by Rick this last October and was impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. My only regret was not taking the class two years ago!

As most of you know both Rick and John are world class competitors as well as gifted instructors. This is a great opportunity to train and fine tune your rifle at local conditions under the tutelage of two of the best in the business.

Be sure to register early. Slots are limited for this work up to ensure that everyone gets quality one on one time.

This train up will be thorough but will not duplicate any stages that will be presented in the match.

The fun shoot will consist of two or three side matches including our popular “Mile Shootout” complete with the latest camera targeting systems and flashers. There is no caliber restrictions on the mile targets so feel free to pack up the Lapua!

The match its self will consist of 150+ shooters and 24 to 26 stages with the max round count to be no more than 250 rounds. Bring plenty of extra if you can as the fun shoots and sight in are unlimited. We recommend 300 rounds for the weekend. That will give you enough for everything plus a bit of a cushion if you have a gun or scope issue.

For those interested in taking advantage of the work up, 100 rounds should be added to your total.

Tentatively the work up is scheduled to run from 7:30 a.m. on Friday April 15th 2016 until noon. The range will open for zero and side matches at 10am to 4pm on Friday.

Friday night there will be a free will donation feed held at the local volunteer fire department in Broadwater. Dinner on Saturday and Sunday night will be provided by WNPS at no charge. These dinners will be served at the Starr St. Diner in Broadwater

Thank you.

Does anyone have an accurate elevation (above sea level) of the match location?

Also, are pistols required for the match?

Google maps says 3665 ASL.  If it's anything like last year, expect up to 200 ft swing in ACTUAL elevation from one end of the course to the other (real elevation, not DA).  Not sure that 200' matters a whole lot, but combined with other metrics, it could contribute to a goodly amount of DA swing.

There was no pistol requirement last year, and I've seen no mention of one this year.

Hopefully Eli will be along here shortly to provide definitive answers.

Yes exactly what Jeff said. Around 3670-3900ASL. For the shoot. No pistol is required. Temp is expected to be in the mid 60's-70's but there is a chance it may be cooler so come prepared.

I met a guy from France. I asked him if he spoke German. He said "No". I said "You're welcome!"
